How does Derek describe his therapeutic process:

My practice as a therapist is informed by my understanding of systems theory. We are always interacting with our world based on our experiences, and we interpret immediate situations through the lens we developed based on our past. I believe it is important to consider the whole person when they present for counseling, whether coming as an individual, a couple, or a family.

I primarily work with clients through a Narrative therapy process, including elements from my training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy.

When clients come into my therapy room, I see their potential. I see the strengths and abilities they possess. In working with me, you will gain a greater understanding of yourself and enrich your understanding of your life story. Through developing your life story, we will collaboratively find ways to manage symptoms better and develop resilience skills.
If you are ready to find hope and build the skills necessary to live your life more fully don't hesitate to reach out to me. I look forward to better understanding you and supporting you in building the life you want to live.

As a Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) Intern, my primary goal is to create a safe and supportive space where individuals, couples, and families can explore their emotions and experiences with compassion and understanding. I believe in the power of healing through connection and empathy, and I am dedicated to helping my clients navigate the complexities of their relationships and personal growth.
Using Emotionally Focused and Narrative Therapy, I work with my clients to uncover the underlying emotions and patterns that influence their relationships and personal experiences. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their stories, reconnect with their emotions, and foster healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

In our work together, you can expect a collaborative and non-judgmental environment where your voice is heard and valued. I am committed to meeting you where you are, respecting your unique experiences, and tailoring our sessions to meet your specific needs and goals.

My approach is centered on helping individuals, couples, and families identify their strengths and resources to overcome challenges. Rather than delving into past problems, I guide clients toward envisioning their preferred future and taking small, actionable steps to get there. By utilizing goal-oriented techniques, I foster resilience in clients.

I help clients feel safe, hopeful, and ready to accept and face the challenges they present in therapy. I empower my clients to confront life's complex challenges.
